Green Cat Hydrogen to progress projects with new support from Scottish Government
Green Cat Hydrogen (GCH), a Scottish developer of green hydrogen projects, has secured significant grant support through the Scottish Government “Funding for development of hydrogen projects” scheme.
This funding of almost £1.1m will help the company accelerate the development of three hydrogen production projects, located across Scotland. The projects at Creca, Dumfries and Galloway; Binn Ecopark, Perthshire; and Strathallan, Perthshire represent a total capacity of 70 MW, with the potential to save over 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
The Scottish Government support will help GCH accelerate deployment; increase scope whilst reducing risk; create employment opportunities; and ultimately bring down the overall costs of producing green hydrogen.
This financial support is a huge step for GCH’s ability to progress its ambitions for the coming years, as well as for the wider green hydrogen economy in Scotland, ensuring that the benefits of renewable energy can be felt across Scottish industries and geographies.
Dr Gavin Catto, Chief Executive Officer at Green Cat Hydrogen, said: “Scottish Government support for these important projects is a significant step in the development process that will allow us to accelerate the growth of Green Hydrogen in Scotland. We see Green Hydrogen projects such as these as a fundamental element of Scotland’s energy transition and are proud to be playing our part.
“The breadth of industries that these projects will support in decarbonising, from food and drink to distilling and manufacturing, shows the role green hydrogen can play in futureproofing sectors – and the jobs they support – that traditionally rely on carbon-intensive energy.
“2025 is set to be a very exciting year for GCH with the announcement of this funding, which will accelerate the delivery of our planned projects across Scotland.”
